As summer comes to a close and the temperatures begin to cool down some of our favorite events in Charleston are just around the corner. Fall is one of the best times to visit the Holy City, especially for families. Whether you’re a local Charlestonian or planning a trip and looking for something to do, here are our favorite fall activities in Charleston:

Boone Hall Plantation Pumpkin Patch – October 1-31, 2019

Boone Hall is one of the most popular destinations in Charleston and for good reason: it has a wealth of historical significance, beautiful, manicured grounds and hosts fairs and festivals throughout the year. This breathtaking plantation offers up views that have been featured in films like The Notebook. One of our favorite activities at Boone Hall is the pumpkin patch! They have plenty of activities for the kids: a rock climbing wall, inflatable slides, and a corn maze. There’s also a rabbit and goat petting area. And best of all, you can take home the perfect pumpkin for your front porch, too!

Have a Shuckin’ Good Time – September-January, 2019

While some may think of it only as local, Lowcountry lore, it’s been said that oysters are best enjoyed in months that end in “R,” which means that September kicks off the oyster season after a long, hot summer in Charleston. We recommend taking a look at any oyster roast or shucking festival. You can learn about the different tastes and textures or just dive in to the delicious dish! If you’re traveling with folks who don’t enjoy oysters, most of the roasts also serve barbecue.

Folly Beach Sea & Sand Festival – September 20-22, 2019

Taking over the entirety of Center Street on Folly Beach, the annual Sea & Sand Festival is Folly’s longest running festival. Encompassing an entire weekend, you can enjoy events such as the Miss Sea & Sand Pageant, local artisans, live music from local artists, sand sculpture competition, and most importantly, food!
