The Royal American
This neighborhood restaurant, bar, and live rock music venue is located on Charleston’s Upper Peninsula, a former industrial area north of downtown that is quickly becoming a vibrant cultural district. The bar is located in an on old iron forge building, and while the owners kept a lot of the industrial feel of the building, they have turned the place into an intimate space for music with a large outdoor patio. You can stop by the Royal American any night of the week to hear some of the best local and regional music.
Music Farm
The Music Farm is one of the most popular venues for Charleston live music, with shows of all genres playing almost every night of the week since it opened in 1991. The venue is located inside an old train shed and has can hold up to 800 people. They play a variety of music—everything from EDM to hip-hop, bluegrass, country, and alternative rock. The venue, located in Upper King’s entertainment district, hosts a variety of acts, including local artists and bigger-name bands.
The Pour House
The Pour House is known among locals as one of the best places for Charleston nightlife with a laid-back setting. If you are looking to listen to jam band music, we would suggest visiting this venue, where they have a band playing every night of the week. The venue is located on James Island and includes both an indoor and outdoor stage. The shows on the outdoor deck are usually free and the venue often has bands playing on each stage so you can move between both shows as long as you have a ticket for the indoor act. The ticket prices are very affordable, so shows often sell out.
Prohibition
This centrally-located cocktail bar is on King Street in the heart of downtown Charleston. As the name suggests, this bar is modeled after a speakeasy and features live jazz music and dancing five nights a week to go along with their 1920s aesthetic.
