OUR FAVORITE CHARLESTON, SC, COFFEE SHOPS
Kudu
Kudu, located in the heart of downtown, has a little something for everyone. This shop first opened in 2005. They were first known for serving coffee and espresso from their roasting facility, which is about a mile from their shop. As they began to gain popularity, they decided to start serving beer and wine. Today, the shop has over 20 beers on tap, all from local breweries. Kudu also serves sandwiches and pastries which you can eat in their large outdoor garden. However, if you are looking for a place to check your email, they do not have Wi-Fi. This coffee shop is for relaxing and enjoying time with friends and family.
The Daily
This coffee shop is sister to Butcher & Bee, a Charleston restaurant whose fresh baked bread is sold throughout the city. Located on King Street, The Daily is a large open space with plenty of windows and natural light. In addition to coffee, they also serve fresh-baked pastries, sandwiches, beer, and wine. All of the items on their menu are reflective of and inspired by the culture and cuisine of Charleston, and many of the goods come from local artisans.
Second State Coffee
Second State Coffee, formerly known as Black Tap Coffee, was started by two friends from college who were looking for good iced coffee. While their name changed, they are still staying true to making the best coffee in Charleston. Their coffee shop is known for some of its more unique non-alcoholic coffee cocktails such as the Black Julep. This twist on the Southern classic features espresso, honey, and mint shaken in a cocktail shaker with ice and poured over crushed ice. The shop, which is located near the historic Charleston City Market, also serves a light breakfast and pastries.
Vintage Coffee Cafe
If you are looking for a larger family-friendly coffee shop, stop by the Vintage Coffee Cafe in Mount Pleasant. Their shop has plenty of space for your whole family, serves wood-fired pizza, and has a large back patio with a playground to keep your kids happy. This coffee shop has a full breakfast and lunch menu, so you can stop by anytime for some food and your caffeine fix.
