IS FOLLY BEACH DOG-FRIENDLY?
During the busy summer season, which is from May 1 – September 30, dogs are not allowed on Folly Beach from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. However, during the off-season, October 1 – April 30, they are allowed on the beach during the day. The beach is much less crowded during the off-season and the temperatures are generally cooler, making it more enjoyable for you and your dog.
While on the beach, dogs must be leashed at all times. Leash laws are strictly enforced and are required for all outdoor activities, including running, playing, and swimming. You must clean up after your dog as well by picking up their waste and throwing it in the garbage can. Pet waste bags are available at all beach access points if you forget to bring your own.
If you see other dogs running around the beach off-leash, they are most likely members of the Folly Island Dog Owners Club (FIDO). FIDO dogs wear special tags designating them part of the club and they are allowed to run on the beach “off-leash” before 9 a.m. and in the evenings during certain times of the year.
If you want to let your dog enjoy off-leash play, visit Folly Beach’s “Bark Park.” The city-owned park, located next to the town’s fun-filled Pirate’s Cove Playground & Skate Park, is a popular spot to let your dog run free when the beach is off limits.

Downtown Folly Beach is also very dog-friendly. There are several restaurants and shops in the area where you can bring your dog with you. Folly Beach Crab Shack, Lost Dog Cafe, Rita’s Seaside Grille, and Black Magic Cafe all have patios where you can dine with your dog and enjoy views of Center Street.
