Charleston SC Bars

Charleston is known for its food and drinks, and the hot weather makes it ideal for sipping some of the cities’ finest craft refreshments. Here’s a list of some of the best bars in Charleston to visit while you are here.

Craftsmen Kitchen & Tap House

This tap house celebrates craft beer and food-to-table cuisine. You can stop by for food or just to try one of their nearly 50 beers on tap. The tap house is open late and has a late-night happy hour; you can also stop by on Sundays for half off all 22oz bottles. The bar is located in the French Quarter of downtown Charleston, so it is a perfect place to stop by at the end of your night.

Closed for Business

This Charleston bars, located on upper King Street, claims to be the home of the most eclectic draught beer selection in the Southeast. With more than 40 taps, they feature all of the finest and one-of-a-kind beers South Carolina has to offer. They also have a twist on classic bar food by using all fresh and local ingredients.

Revelry Brewing Co.

Revelry’s brewery is located in the north-central part of downtown in an old warehouse and has one of the best rooftops in the city. The brewery serves a variety of their own beer, including an American Pale Ale, a Gullah Cream Ale, and a New England style IPA.

Palmetto Brewing Co.

Not far from Revelry is South Carolina’s first post-prohibition brewery. The brewery has a large tasting room and plenty of beers on tap.

The Bar at Husk

This century-old exposed brick bar really gives the feel of Charleston. Located next to the famed Husk restaurant, this bar has one of the largest selections of bourbon on the peninsula, and the bartenders are always coming up with a Charleston twist to classic drinks.

The Gin Joint

This fun craft-cocktail bar is a great place to go if you can’t decide what you want to drink. The cocktail menu changes every season to use fresh and local ingredients, but none of their drinks use vodka; the owner says it’s because every bad cocktail has vodka in it and they only want to serve the best. If you can’t make up your mind on which drink you want, you can always pick the “Bartender’s Choice” for a surprise and let them know what flavors you want such as “tart” or “fizzy.”
