Charleston Shopping at King Street

King Street is one of the main streets for Charleston shopping, food, and nightlife. The street is divided up into three sections: Lower, Middle, and Upper King,

Lower King Street is located between Broad Street and Market Street and is known as the antique district full of boutiques, antique shops, and art galleries. One of the largest and oldest antique shops on the street is George C. Birlant & Co. The store, which opened in 1922, is respected by antique dealers around the country. Another store to check out on Lower King is Ibu Movement. This locally-owned store sells handmade textiles and fabrics made by women artisans from around the world.

Middle King Street is located between Market Street and Calhoun Street and is known as the fashion district of King Street. This section of King Street features more national stores like H&M and Gap, but it also has a few local stores including Worthwhile and Hampden, both local boutiques showcasing the style of Charleston.

Upper King Street is located between Calhoun Street and Spring Street is known as the design and dining district because of its old churches, art galleries, and brick buildings. It also hosts year-round art walks and features some of the city’s best cuisine.

Charleston City Market

The Charleston City Market, established in 1807, is one of the country’s oldest public markets. The market is open every day and features more than 300 vendors selling everything from bath and body items to food, purses, art, toys, collectibles, and much more. If you are looking for a craft authentic to Charleston, check out the sweetgrass basket makers; they sell woven baskets handmade by Gullah artisans. The market takes up four city blocks in the heart of downtown.

The Shops at Belmond Charleston Place

The Shops at Belmond Charleston Place are a mini-mall located in the lobby of the luxury Belmond Charleston Place. The mini-mall features upscale stores including Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Kate Spade.
